Staircase and flooring beneath the Pyramid of the Louvre

This building, today housing the Louvre Museum, was initially built as a palace during the Middle Ages. The new Louvre, consisting of the Grand Palais and the Pyramid, designed by architect I. M. Pei was inaugurated in 1989.

Pei employed glass and stone for the Pyramid and the Carrousel. Chassagne and Saint-Marc stones dress the spiral staircase of the Pyramid, as well as the flooring and walls of the Carrousel reception hall.
